Dr. Tara Milligan, MPH, MBA, is a native of LaGrange, GA. She graduated from Prairie View A&M University, University of Tennessee Memphis College of Dentistry, and American Public University. Dr. Milligan has practiced dentistry for 26 years, and at the age of 28, she was the first African American female dentist to own a solo dental practice in Troup County, GA.
This is her first children’s book. This book was written to encourage African American girls to consider the field of dentistry. African American women are severely underrepresented in the field of dentistry. This book is the first children’s book to address and explore a black girl’s journey to becoming the first African American female dentist in her community. Dr. Milligan believes that the best teaching tool is exposure and so wrote this book in hopes of sparking an interest in a rewarding career in dentistry. She loves to write, play golf, and travel. She is the proud mother of Sydney. She now practices dentistry in the Atlanta area.
Dr. Tara Milligan, DDS, MPH recalls her journey on achieving her dream and becoming the first Black female dentist in the LaGrange, GA community to open her own dental practice.
